Exciting News!

NEWS!!

I’m sooo excited!!! Yesterday I was asked to be the Keynote Speaker at the Silken Sands RWA Conference (Gulf Coast Chapter) March 16, 2012 in Pensacola, FL !!!! Seriously, how  cool is that. I was more than flattered and of course I’m going. A wonderful weekend under blue skies and a warm balmy breeze when my state will still be shaking off winter’s cold.

If you live anywhere close by and would love to join in what is going to be a fabulous weekend, with Barbara Vey from Publisher’s Weekly giving the Kickoff Speech, mark your calendars because we’re also going to have a lot of THE SEASON kind of fun, which means lots of books will be given away and there will be tons of fun to be had. Oh, and the hotel is right on the beach.

Update: If anyone would like more information about the conference, you can email Jillian at JillianChantal@gmail.com – Jillian, Silken Sands Conference Chair- 2012.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

What are we going to be doing on the blog in the coming weeks. Oh lots of fun stuff. ;)

On Tuesday, I’ll be joined by Sophie Jordan and we’re going to be chatting about her new Young Adult novel, FIRELIGHT and how she’s juggling writing in three different genres.

Also on Tuesday the October issue will go live on the website. There’s a lot of really great Top Picks this month and even some reviews from books that missed the cut off deadline from previous months. I’ll post more about the new issue on Tuesday.

On Wednesday will be another Authors Under the Radar post. Do I know who that is yet? Um, no, but I’m looking.

Thursday I’ll be giving away some books. I have a nice stash of October releases I’d better get working on.

Friday I’ll be discussing my Fabulous Find of the month and giving away a copy of that book.

~**~**~

In other news, I’ve updated the blog page to make it mirror the site exactly with a slight caveat. If you click on the BLOG image on the header, it will take you to the homepage of this blog. However, if you click anywhere else on the header, it will take you to the homepage of The Season website. That’s just an FYI in case you’re on the comment screen or another blog page and want to get back to the blog homepage  in just one click.

In the coming week or so, I’ll be announcing this year’s The Season Writing Contest. Last year I did a Pitch Contest, this year I want to do something more fun. I’m basing this contest on Avon Fanlit (which I really credit for giving me the courage and motivation to write and complete my first book, SINFUL SURRENDER).

Entrants will have to write a 1600 word scene or scenes and the readers will be the judges, voting on whose they think is the best. There will be semi and then final round. The grand prize winner will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card (nice to have right before Christmas) and a 25 page critique from an agent or editor. Second prize winner will also receive a 25 page critique from an editor or agent. There might be a third prize winner if I can rope another agent or editor into doing this. ;) But stay tuned, I’ll be posting more about this contest hopefully fairly soon.

The Season Book Club moves here in September

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Click to pre-order from Amazon

I decided it would be fun to move the Book Club to the blog. The thought is, it will get more readers participating if they don’t have to belong to a forum. At least, that’s my hope.  Usually, I would have visitors vote and choose from about 8-10 releases. For September, I’m just going to choose because it’s a book I really want to read, and really want to know everyone’s opinion.

It won’t come as a huge surprise (given Friday’s post) that the September Book Club Pick is Zoë Archer’s WARRIOR. For all those who want to participate, the book officially releases Sept 7th and you’ll have one month to read. On October 5th, I will post the discussion on the blog. To have your comments included in the post,  please email me at contact at theseasonforromance dot com at least 2 days prior to posting date. Of course, you can also wait until October 5th and add your thoughts in the comment section. I’ll also have a random drawing and 2 (two) participants will receive 2 (two) books each from the new crop of October releases.

I hope everyone will join me and take this trip with me to Mongolia!

Truths I find to be self evident

Friday, August 13th, 2010

As a person, as an author, I have found many truths to be self evident and I came up with these two short lists:

As a person

1. Jeans are made of cotton. They can wrinkle. Unless they are coming straight out of the dryer OR you’re wearing them so tight ironing won’t make a difference, they need to be ironed. Same can be said for t-shirts.

2. Children only need to speak with you the second you get on the phone. It’s a statistical fact.

3. There is always someone doing 5 miles less than the speed limit driving in the fast lane…who refuses to move…no matter what.

4. If you wear a white shirt or pants, food will somehow end up on you…even if you’re not the one eating it.

As an author

1. Not everyone will like your book. Accept it now and don’t get any piece of clothing tied in a knot when you receive unfavourable review.

2. Not everyone is supposed to like your book. Art is subjective.

3. Adjectives are part of life, part of the literary world, embrace them (up to a point).

4. No matter how good the writing, at the end of the day, the thing that matters most is the story.

5. True success isn’t instant, it’s earned.

6. Staying published is about talent and perseverance, not luck.

7. If you follow trends, you’ll always be behind.

8. If your characters never become real to you, you’re not a writer.

What about you? What truths have you found to be self-evident? Comment to enter to win 2 books from Monday’s list of books for The Season’s One Year Anniversary Giveaway.

Upcoming Events and Other News

Monday, July 12th, 2010

August 17th of 2009, The Season celebrated the official launch of The Season website. It was a month long bonanza with an 8+ book and 2+ winners a day giveaway, which totaled 44 winners and over 90 books.

Well, The Season’s one year anniversary is just a month away and while it won’t be for a month this time, but starting Monday, August 16th thru August 20th, I’ll be holding a week long celebration with books aplenty to be won, and lots of fun and games.

If you are a published author and would like to donate your book(s) to be featured on the Blog for the giveaway, please contact me at contact at theseasonforromance dot com.

In other news, I’ve updated The Season website with a search feature!!! Yes! Believe me when I say, this feature is a major time saver. When the number on books on the site grew to unwieldy, even for me, I knew I had to put aside my trepidation and just do it. I’m happy to say that it seems to be working better than I could have hoped. Here’s a hint, if you’re doing literal searches, put a quote around the string. For example, if you’re searching for “I Kissed An Earl“, put a quote around the title so you don’t get everything with “Kissed” and “Earl” in it.

The search is on all home pages. The good news about that is, starting with the August issue, all genres featured on the site will have their own home pages.

Getting back to The Season’s One Year Anniversary week long celebration, what else would you like to see or do besides receive fantastic books? I’m looking for ideas. If I use your idea, you’ll be one of Day One’s winners and will get your choice of 3 books.

Red, White and Blue Fireworks Giveaway

Check out books 15 and 16!

The Dragon’s Captive

Raised as an orphan behind the walls of Hope Abbey, Rose Lancaster’s sheltered upbringing never prepared her for a man like Lord Roxburghe. The fabled “Black Dragon,” Ruark Kerr hasn’t been seen in his Scottish homeland for more than a decade—and now he has burst into Rose’s protected world to take her hostage, intending to trade her life for the life of his young brother. But Rose does not fear this savage, powerful lord…and she guards a dangerous secret.

Villainy called Ruark back to the borderlands, but now that he’s claimed his “prize” his path is less certain. If he does not turn her over to his enemy, a boy may die. Yet gentle, lovely Rose soothes his vengeful spirit, and the longer she remains by him, the hotter his passion for her burns.

May's Top Pick!

Chelsea Ross’s acting career has been a total bust. The closest she ever came to stardom was her brilliant performance as “Pretty Dead Girl #1.” But leaving Hollywood to become the personal assistant to a famous hockey player could be her stupidest career move ever.

Injured superstar Mark Bressler’s glory days are over. The bad-boy ex-jock could at least be civil to the pint-sized, pink-haired bombshell who the Seattle Chinooks hired to be his P.A. If Chelsea didn’t need the money, she’d be running from the world’s biggest jerk as fast as her feet could carry her.

Chelsea can deal with Mark’s rotten attitude and dark moods. The problem is those biceps and that red-hot bod! And when the bad boy starts to put the moves on her, Chelsea knows it’s time she banished him to the penalty box . . . if only she could resist the kind of trouble he has in mind!
