The October issue is up!

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Another nail biter of a month getting the October issue of THE SEASON up today. But it’s done and there are tons of fabulous read this month.

What’s New!

I decided the review links were too low on the page. As you can see from the image on the right,  I’ve moved them right under the covers, that way no one can miss them (I hope).

This month under, Market Musings, Helena chatted with Marylu Tyndale in her Research Ruminations column.

I also posted new pics of my Reviewers. I’m shooting for a 90% so I still need a few more to reach that quota.;) Hey, some of them are just downright shy.

***Speaking of reviewers, a brief aside if you don’t mind. Two of The Season reviewers have entered the NEW VOICES Mills and Boon contest and I’d be ever so appreciative if you checked out their entries. Miranda’s historical entry is IN THE DUKE’S BED and Deb’s romantic suspense entry is HEART OF STONE.

Getting back on topic, please check out October’s fabulous Top Picks and our three new historical debuts.

So to celebrate the successful release of the new issue, I’m giving away an advanced copy of Elizabeth’s Boyle’s MAD ABOUT THE DUKE and Kerrelyn SparksEAT PREY LOVE (a 10 Star Top Pick!). Click respective covers for full description.

Also, while you’re cruising the new issue, I’m looking for approximately 8-10 suggestions for the October Book Club Pick. And no, it doesn’t have to be a historical, any featured book on the site is eligible. On October 5th I’ll be posting our discussion on Zoe Archer’s WARRIOR so I hope you’re reading. Remember, if you want your comment on the post, send it to contact at theseasonforromance dot com by October 3rd and you’ll be entered into a drawing of your own.

And don’t forget to Vote in September’ s Readers’ Top Pick Poll. Voting ends September 30.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

What are we going to be doing on the blog in the coming weeks. Oh lots of fun stuff. ;)

On Tuesday, I’ll be joined by Sophie Jordan and we’re going to be chatting about her new Young Adult novel, FIRELIGHT and how she’s juggling writing in three different genres.

Also on Tuesday the October issue will go live on the website. There’s a lot of really great Top Picks this month and even some reviews from books that missed the cut off deadline from previous months. I’ll post more about the new issue on Tuesday.

On Wednesday will be another Authors Under the Radar post. Do I know who that is yet? Um, no, but I’m looking.

Thursday I’ll be giving away some books. I have a nice stash of October releases I’d better get working on.

Friday I’ll be discussing my Fabulous Find of the month and giving away a copy of that book.

~**~**~

In other news, I’ve updated the blog page to make it mirror the site exactly with a slight caveat. If you click on the BLOG image on the header, it will take you to the homepage of this blog. However, if you click anywhere else on the header, it will take you to the homepage of The Season website. That’s just an FYI in case you’re on the comment screen or another blog page and want to get back to the blog homepage  in just one click.

In the coming week or so, I’ll be announcing this year’s The Season Writing Contest. Last year I did a Pitch Contest, this year I want to do something more fun. I’m basing this contest on Avon Fanlit (which I really credit for giving me the courage and motivation to write and complete my first book, SINFUL SURRENDER).

Entrants will have to write a 1600 word scene or scenes and the readers will be the judges, voting on whose they think is the best. There will be semi and then final round. The grand prize winner will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card (nice to have right before Christmas) and a 25 page critique from an agent or editor. Second prize winner will also receive a 25 page critique from an editor or agent. There might be a third prize winner if I can rope another agent or editor into doing this. ;) But stay tuned, I’ll be posting more about this contest hopefully fairly soon.

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

If you belong to The Season Facebook Group, I hope you’ve received the email for the mini-giveaway I’m throwing–a small preemption of the one year anniversary one that will begin August 16th.  If you like visuals, here’s the selection of books. Follow the directions on the Facebook email to enter!

A special thanks to all the authors and publicists that afforded me an extra book here and there when they learned I was giving all my books away (You know who you are). You guys are the best!!!

Tomorrow, join me on the blog when Lila DiPasqua will be guest blogging and giving away a copy of her debut book, AWAKENED BY A KISS, three steamy retellings of classic fairy tales.

Excerpt Thursday will be moved and become Excerpt Friday this week. I’ll be featuring two ‘hookable’ excerpts; ones that will hopefully heighten your anticipation for the books release.

I’m back from the RWA National Conference that took place in hot and muggy Orlando, FL at Disney World. I’ll blog about that next week.

August Issue Is Up

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

The August issue of The Season eZine is up! Needless to say, I’m relieved. It’s been two straight days of work, work, work.

What’s New!

Every genre now has its own Home Page. As I kept expanding the genres on the site, and the number of titles I was posting for each, this went from a ‘nice to have’ to a ‘must’. Everything just couldn’t fit on the Welcome page. Just click on the respective images to take you to the respective home page.

The Mystery section is finally up. For all you Agatha Christie fans, there’s a special Gold Classic review up for DEATH ON THE NILE and a clip of the 1978 film. Click here to check it out!

In other news, last month readers voted Lisa Kleypas’s LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON their Top Pick for July! That’s 2-0 for Lisa, whose MARRIED BY MORNING was readers Top Pick in June. Congrats, Lisa!

Don’t forget to come back on Friday when my interview with Eloisa James will be up and commenters will be entered to win an advanced copy of her upcoming release, A KISS TO REMEMBER, which received a 10 Rating Top Pick! You can read the review here.

Upcoming Events and Other News

Monday, July 12th, 2010

August 17th of 2009, The Season celebrated the official launch of The Season website. It was a month long bonanza with an 8+ book and 2+ winners a day giveaway, which totaled 44 winners and over 90 books.

Well, The Season’s one year anniversary is just a month away and while it won’t be for a month this time, but starting Monday, August 16th thru August 20th, I’ll be holding a week long celebration with books aplenty to be won, and lots of fun and games.

If you are a published author and would like to donate your book(s) to be featured on the Blog for the giveaway, please contact me at contact at theseasonforromance dot com.

In other news, I’ve updated The Season website with a search feature!!! Yes! Believe me when I say, this feature is a major time saver. When the number on books on the site grew to unwieldy, even for me, I knew I had to put aside my trepidation and just do it. I’m happy to say that it seems to be working better than I could have hoped. Here’s a hint, if you’re doing literal searches, put a quote around the string. For example, if you’re searching for “I Kissed An Earl“, put a quote around the title so you don’t get everything with “Kissed” and “Earl” in it.

The search is on all home pages. The good news about that is, starting with the August issue, all genres featured on the site will have their own home pages.

Getting back to The Season’s One Year Anniversary week long celebration, what else would you like to see or do besides receive fantastic books? I’m looking for ideas. If I use your idea, you’ll be one of Day One’s winners and will get your choice of 3 books.
