New: Top 20 Lists

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Just a quick note to bring my brand new Top 20 Lists to your attention.  The Season now features:

Top 20:

Bestselling Books – These are books that are featured on The Season site. Their rankings are determined by using a weighted average of Amazon (70%)  and B&N (30%) bestselling lists. The book will generally appear on both lists. The book will not appear on the list if it only appears on the B&N list but the reverse can be true.

Most Viewed – These are the books that have the most page views by visitors to the site.

Best Reviewed – These are the books that have the best reviewed books by The Season reviewers in the order of most page views.  So the longer a book with a good rating stays on the Most Viewed list, the longer it will remain on this list.

You can Retweet and also share these pages lists on Facebook.  :)

First and foremost, to all those who celebrate this day:

HAPPY EASTER!

Second, the May issue of The Season is up–yeah just in time for the May releases, which will begin coming out on Tuesday. I’ve made some changes to the book pages and added Comment/Rating functionality for all books. I’ll be giving out weekly books (5 new releases) to readers who post reviews and one $25 Gift Certificate monthly. Watch out in the coming months for even more changes like weekly rankings by Page Views and Review Ratings.

In the meanwhile, I hope you’ll check out the new issue and click the Facebook ‘Like’ link below ARCHIVES on the homepage.

Have a great Easter Sunday! I’ll see you tomorrow.

Wanted: Reviewers

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

The Season is looking for reviewers to primarily focus on reviewing Harlequin category titles and Carina Press books.

Requirements:

Must have a reading mobile device as these would be egalleys–or be comfortable reading on desktop or laptop.
Must have excellent writing skills and be prepared to supply a sample–preferably of a review you wrote.
Must be able to review at least 2 books a month.
**Must read in one or more of the genres below.

**Contemporary, historical, paranormal, romantic suspense, erotic (inlcuding m/m, menage etc), inspirational and multi-cultural–which I think covers pretty much everything under the romance umbrella.

If you are interested, please contact me at contact at theseasonforromance dot com.

The Season December issue is up!

Sunday, November 21st, 2010

Yep, it’s already that time. Okay, so it’s past that time by about a day but what matters is that the December issue is finally up on the site.

WHAT’S NEW

Month-At-A-Glance:

Have you noticed that the releases aren’t grouped in any particular order except by genre. That’s because I put the pages together as I get the reviews in OR if I received the book early enough to determine that I should have a review for it by the go live date.

Here’s the problem with my no order presentation–no one knows what book is on the next page or what rating it received until they stumble upon it. Hey, I’m easy, I don’t mind that kind of surprises but some folks don’t. So for my visitors who want to see the books based on their rating so they can cherry pick the reviews they want to read, I’ve added a Month-At-A-Glance page to all the genres (Mystery will be coming later once I start getting the December reviews for them).

Historical Month-At-A-Glance

Weekly Giveaway:

I’m giving away 6 fabulous releases, all books featured in the December issue. Not only are the books featured on the Home Page but they are all designated with the easy to spot WIN symbol. If the link on the pages don’t work, you can email me at contests at theseasonforromance dot com to enter. Please include your first and last name. On the subject line, please type the title of the book you’re entering to win. If you include your snail mail address, you don’t have to contact me again if you win.

A Little Bit of This and That News

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

As a young voracious reader, I would dream of having all the books I could ever want. And even when I had more books than I could read it one entire week, I wanted more. Then my mother got a job at Harlequin and that was heaven on earth. She used to bring home a book (a big box) of books every month with every title from every line Harlequin published. This was back in the 80s when they’d just bought Silhouette.

An aside–did you hear that Harlequin doing away with the Silhouette name and replacing the Silhouette name with Harlequin in the Desire, Special Edition and Romantic Suspense lines? I’m kind of surprised it took them this long but I do have a fondness for the Silhouette name and will miss it. It will certainly take some getting used to.

Anywho, as I was saying, I never thought I could ever have enough books. I so loved a teetering TBR pile. It meant I’d always have something to read. Well right now I have books aplenty all over my dining room table and the task of even sticking the cover on a blog post to give it away is too much. So I came up with a way I could give more away by doing less than 1/5 of the work. I’ve posted the logo on the right with all the books I’m currently giving away. The drawing for all will be held Monday, October 25th. Just click the respective titles below and it will take you to the entry page.

WARRIOR AVENGED – Addison Fox
DARK VIKING – Sandra Hill
SEDUCING THE SUCCUBUS – Cassie Ryan
STYX’S STORM – Lora Leigh
TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD - Sarah MacLean
WICKED WONDERLAND – LuAnn McLane, Susanna Carr, Janice Maynard
SELFISH IS THE HEART – Megan Hart

In other news, voting is still open for Readers’ October Top Pick! Don’t forget to stop by and vote.

In ‘Tis The Season Writing Contest news, tomorrow I will start accepting entries. I’ve created a special board on the The Season Forum if you’d like to chat about the entries, the contest, the voting, writing, whatever.  If you’re not registered, it’s a quick and easy sign-up. Since I do get a ton of spam on this site, your registration will have to be approved by me.

That’s all for now in A Little Bit of This and That News. :) I’ll be back in about a week with more.

The November issue is up on the site!

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

The November issue is up on The Season website. We have some great Top Picks so make sure you check them and let me know what you think.  Voting is still going on for Readers’ October Top Pick so vote now and vote often–seriously kidding. LOL.

I’ll be back later today–towards the evening-ish–with another post. I’m slowly weeding my way through 3 stacks of books I need to give away. This year I’m getting excited about Christmas. Are you?

We interrupt this regularly scheduled program
