A Little Bit of This and That News

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

As a young voracious reader, I would dream of having all the books I could ever want. And even when I had more books than I could read it one entire week, I wanted more. Then my mother got a job at Harlequin and that was heaven on earth. She used to bring home a book (a big box) of books every month with every title from every line Harlequin published. This was back in the 80s when they’d just bought Silhouette.

An aside–did you hear that Harlequin doing away with the Silhouette name and replacing the Silhouette name with Harlequin in the Desire, Special Edition and Romantic Suspense lines? I’m kind of surprised it took them this long but I do have a fondness for the Silhouette name and will miss it. It will certainly take some getting used to.

Anywho, as I was saying, I never thought I could ever have enough books. I so loved a teetering TBR pile. It meant I’d always have something to read. Well right now I have books aplenty all over my dining room table and the task of even sticking the cover on a blog post to give it away is too much. So I came up with a way I could give more away by doing less than 1/5 of the work. I’ve posted the logo on the right with all the books I’m currently giving away. The drawing for all will be held Monday, October 25th. Just click the respective titles below and it will take you to the entry page.

WARRIOR AVENGED – Addison Fox
DARK VIKING – Sandra Hill
SEDUCING THE SUCCUBUS – Cassie Ryan
STYX’S STORM – Lora Leigh
TEN WAYS TO BE ADORED WHEN LANDING A LORD - Sarah MacLean
WICKED WONDERLAND – LuAnn McLane, Susanna Carr, Janice Maynard
SELFISH IS THE HEART – Megan Hart

In other news, voting is still open for Readers’ October Top Pick! Don’t forget to stop by and vote.

In ‘Tis The Season Writing Contest news, tomorrow I will start accepting entries. I’ve created a special board on the The Season Forum if you’d like to chat about the entries, the contest, the voting, writing, whatever.  If you’re not registered, it’s a quick and easy sign-up. Since I do get a ton of spam on this site, your registration will have to be approved by me.

That’s all for now in A Little Bit of This and That News. :) I’ll be back in about a week with more.

Upcoming Events and Other News

August 17th of 2009, The Season celebrated the official launch of The Season website. It was a month long bonanza with an 8+ book and 2+ winners a day giveaway, which totaled 44 winners and over 90 books.

Well, The Season’s one year anniversary is just a month away and while it won’t be for a month this time, but starting Monday, August 16th thru August 20th, I’ll be holding a week long celebration with books aplenty to be won, and lots of fun and games.

If you are a published author and would like to donate your book(s) to be featured on the Blog for the giveaway, please contact me at contact at theseasonforromance dot com.

In other news, I’ve updated The Season website with a search feature!!! Yes! Believe me when I say, this feature is a major time saver. When the number on books on the site grew to unwieldy, even for me, I knew I had to put aside my trepidation and just do it. I’m happy to say that it seems to be working better than I could have hoped. Here’s a hint, if you’re doing literal searches, put a quote around the string. For example, if you’re searching for “I Kissed An Earl“, put a quote around the title so you don’t get everything with “Kissed” and “Earl” in it.

The search is on all home pages. The good news about that is, starting with the August issue, all genres featured on the site will have their own home pages.

Getting back to The Season’s One Year Anniversary week long celebration, what else would you like to see or do besides receive fantastic books? I’m looking for ideas. If I use your idea, you’ll be one of Day One’s winners and will get your choice of 3 books.

Odds and Ends News

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

I intended today as an Hook Me: Excerpt Thursday day, but alas it is not. So I’m just going to do some odds and ends news.

First, I put up a new page on The Season website titled Marketplace. After receiving a request to include an additional bookseller link to purchase books (currently I have direct buy links for all the books on the site to Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon, Indie Bound, Powell’s and Books-a-Million) I decided to do one better and give online booksellers their own page.

Now, if you’re like me and buy lots of books, this is the perfect reference page for you as I’ve included a small note to let you know what the savings are for each bookseller. And again, if you’re like me and also buy ebooks, I have a slew of places where you can purchase your favourite authors in the various electronic format. I used to buy my ebooks in the digital .pdf format but after hearing that the iPad would be using the ePub format, I switched to that format as I have every intention of getting an iPad once the kinks from the initial version are worked out. If after checking out the page, you can think of another online bookseller that should be there, please contact me and let me know.

Time is winding down to enter to win a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate simply by answering a question about my debut, SINFUL SURRENDER. If you have the book, just flip to page 304, the answer is there. It’s that easy. Click here for entry details. March 5th is entry deadline.

Oh and good news on this front. SINFUL SURRENDER was voted Borders Book Club selection in Rockford, IL for the month of March. I was ecstatic when I heard. Thank you, ladies. I’m completely flattered and so happy you enjoyed the book. :D

Have you voted for the February Top Pick? March 6th is the last day to cast your vote. As it stands, the top three ranked are:

Good news. I’ve found another person to review books for the blog. YAY! Her name is Sherry M and she loves historical and contemporary romance. She’s been an avid reader for the past fifteen years and the best news is she lives down the street from me. I can literally walk the books over to her to review. How sweet is that? This will be her first crack at actually writing reviews but she has good and strong opinions. I’m hoping I can have a review from her next week. Welcome Sherry! (Now she has to start following my blog. LOL)
