Release Day – An Heir of Deception is here!!!!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Somewhere in my head I must have actually thought I’d get this book done. And I did. YAY!!!

Talk about getting close to a character. I admit wholeheartedly, I love Alex and I knew he was special since Sinful Surrender. I also knew I torture him and challenge him. I also knew his and Charlotte’s story would be very close to my heart. It’s been over three years, first anticipating his story and then writing it. I will sincerely miss him. :)

Last night, Amazon was the first to get AN HEIR OF DECEPTION up on their site and let me tell you it was sheer relief. B&N followed hours later–close enough to join the party.

Today is all about me celebrating its release with you. Some lucky commenter is going to win a $50 eGift Card to an online bookstore of their choice.

A man devastated by love

After three years of carousing and debauchery, Alex Cartwright, heir to the Duke of Hastings, has put his life back in order. Having embraced sobriety for two years, he has no intention of revisiting the past or risking his heart again. But the return of the very woman who introduced him to the darkest side of hell brings not only the painful, haunting memories of bittersweet love and abandonment, but the son he never knew he had…

A woman silenced by secrets

Threatened by the revelation of a secret that could destroy her family’s place in society and forever tarnish a dukedom, Charlotte fled England on her wedding day five years ago. Now, although it appears that secret is safe, when Alex discovers her other secret—their son—Charlotte has an altogether different battle ahead. She must now fight one love to hold onto the other—the man whose touch still makes her burn, for the child who is her very world.

Jodi Thomas takes us Just Down the Road

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

by Jodi Thomas

On April 3, 2012, my new story JUST DOWN THE ROAD was released.  I was walking the floor waiting for the birth of this book because I feel like it’s the best I’ve ever written.  A friend of mine commented that, over the last 36 books, I’ve said that a few times before, and I probably have, but I work to make each one better and this one shines.

For those readers who love stories that wrap around your heart, you’ll love this one.  It’s about the people of a small town who, though they think they live private lives also interact and change those around them.  I’ve really never thought of the people in my books as characters, for me they are people, as real in my mind as my neighbors.  They are wise and foolish, and loving…and unforgettable.

I think I fell in love with Tinch Turner when I first met him sitting outside the emergency room waiting to make sure all the guys he just beat up were going home with little more than bruised egos.  He’s the kind of guy Addison Spencer, the new town doctor, sees as tall, lean, walking trouble.  She thinks she wants nothing to do with him until she catches a glimpse of Tinch through his four year old nephew’s eyes.

JUST DOWN THE ROAD is about letting go of the past and stepping into new beginnings. It’s about learning to recognize what’s important in life. What lies closest to your heart. The stories in this little town blend together as the people touch each others’ lives and I think when the reader finishes, they’ll be surprised how much my characters have grown to matter to them.

When Tinch Turner lost his wife, he gave up on living. Now he spends his nights brooding, boozing and brawl-ing. When one of his escapades lands him in the ER, he finds himself staring up at the beautiful new doctor in town. For the first time in years, he feels a spark, but Addison Spencer wants nothing to do with the unruly rancher—or any man for that matter. She’s only in Harmony four months, long enough for the trouble she left behind to be over. But then a vulnerable little boy barrels into both of their lives, forcing them out of the past —and into a future where love is just down the road…

Would you read a romance with no love scenes?

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Today I stumbled upon something I’ve never seen before: A single title romance from a NON inspirational line or publisher that had not ONE single solitary love scene. Yep, you heard it here first, this book did not have one love scene.

From what I gathered–I did start to skim once I realized the intrigue element would be central to the plot–they exchanged one kiss that was described in any significant detail. As I neared the end and realized there was only 26 pages left in the book, I thought, “Surely not. Is there only going to be one love scene in this entire book?” To say I was shocked that it didn’t even have one left me gobsmacked. I’m a romance reader that likes my love scenes. Not too many mind you and I NEED lots of sexual tension.

Anyway, I was really shocked that the publishing company would release a historical romance not geared toward the inspirational market without not even one love scene. I actually even did a search of the book and could find no instances of the word “breast” there either. My thought is this on the matter: There are readers out there who really don’t want the love scenes but don’t want an the inspirational slant either. To satisfy these readers you give them intrigue and a very, very sweet romance. A kiss or two and that’s it.

I want to know what you think. Would you read a romance novel (not inspirational) with absolutely no love scenes? If you knew this before you read the book, would it discourage or encourage you from purchasing it? Comment and enter to win all three books below.

The End of the Series: Win (almost) the whole Burgundy Club

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

by Miranda Neville

It seems like an age since I blogged at The Season for Romance about The Wild Marquis, the first book in the Burgundy Club series. Now, just over two years later, the fourth and final book is out.  Minerva and Blake, the couple in Confessions from an Arranged Marriage, weren’t even a gleam in my eye when I conceived the Burgundy Club. They appeared as secondary characters in book 2, The Dangerous Viscount, and instantly struck sparks, though not in a particularly good way. So naturally I decided they were made for each other and set out to figure out why!

I’m sad saying goodbye to a group of characters I’ve lived with so long, but I was also ready to make the break. I’m now happily involved with a new group of a hot men and strong women whom I hope readers will love as much as I do.

Some series end, some don’t, and some should. Leaving aside books, I thought of Star Wars. I love the “first” trilogy. I’ve seen each of those movies a dozen times and always have a blast. I’m sitting at my computer now and savoring some favorite moments: the bar scene; the collapsing garbage dump; Leia telling Luke he’s awfully short for a star trooper; just about any scene with Yoda in it; Han frozen in a block of carbon (sob). And, for us romance aficionados, Han Solo and Princess Leia as the ultimate bantering couple.

And then they had to go and ruin it. That prequel trilogy was an abomination that I’d like to erase from my memory cells. (Except for Yoda fighting, which was awesome.)  George Lucas just didn’t know when to say no.

What do you think about series? Do you prefer long or short ones? Or, if you prefer, you can just tell me your favorite bit from Star Wars. One commenter will win the first three Burgundy Club books: The Wild Marquis, The Dangerous Viscount, and The Amorous Education of Celia Seaton. (Sorry, due to postage costs this drawing is open to US residents only).

Giveaway & Guest Post: If I Fall by Kate Noble

Friday, April 6th, 2012

by Kate Noble

Have you ever had a crush?  Well, of course you have, we are all human.  And I’m willing to bet that the crush that you remember most fondly is that first crush. The one that woke you up to the possibilities of romance and adventure.  The one that had you practicing kissing on your pillow.  For me, it was Indiana Jones.  For Sarah Forrester, it was the Blue Raven.

The Blue Raven is the infamous, anonymous British spy – one whose exploits in the Peninsular Wars were turned into adventure stories in the newspaper.  Which, thusly, turned the Blue Raven into a legend.

And Miss Sarah Forrester is madly in love with him.  Or at least, she was when she was a girl.  Nowadays, Sarah is the leading light of the ton.  After she was cruelly dumped by her Duke ex-fiance, she reinvented herself as the Golden Lady – the sparkling, shining leader of all things fashionable.  A creature very far removed from the sweet, kind girl who had played pirates with her sisters and mooned over the Blue Raven – or is she?

When Lieutenant Jackson Fletcher returns home from his time at sea, he is shocked to find that his childhood friend Sarah has turned into this cruel, cutting creature of society.  It seems as if only he can see beyond the façade to the pain that created it.  But just how is he supposed to go about bringing the happy, selfless Sarah Forrester back out from hiding?  After all, nothing seems to pique her interest… nothing that is, except for when Jackson, at the end of his tether, pretends to be the Blue Raven.

Too bad the real Blue Raven doesn’t find the disguise all that funny.

If I Fall is a tale of friends who become enemies, lovers who don’t know they’re in love, secret identities, intrigue, mute Burmese aristocrats, mysterious paintings, murder, and finding the one who will be there to catch you when you fall.  No matter what.

Not bad for a first crush, eh?

If I Fall

Every great romance comes with a risk…

After a duke’s betrayal, the resilient Sarah Forrester reinvents herself as the Golden Lady: society’s leading light, the beautiful and witty life of the party. It’s all a façade of course-one that protects her from another intimate disloyalty. When her old friend, Lieutenant Jackson Fletcher, returns to London, he is determined to rediscover the true and trusting Sarah he once knew. It’ll take more than a kiss and a promise. It might even call for an innocent and necessary deception.

Then Jackson is enlisted to help capture the lead suspect in a murder— a man who happens to be Sarah’s most ardent suitor. Jack must continue the deception, and weathering this newest and gravest betrayal will be Sarah’s ultimate test. But as Jack’s passion for her grows, he must also reveal his own secrets. And as the killer turns his attention to his pursuers, more than love and trust is put at risk.

So tell me about your first crush!  Leave a comment below and we’ll chose one lucky winner to receive an autographed copy of IF I FALL!

Anticipation…

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Currently, there are two books I’m greatly anticipating reading in the coming months. As in bug the publicist so she knows how much I want–no need to read these books.

The first book, which is the second book in Sherry Thomas’s FitzHugh Trilogy, is titled, RAVISHING THE HEIRESS. I was immediately turned onto this book when I read the first book, BEGUILING THE BEAUTY. This story of Millicent and Fitz completely intrigued me. She was married to him at the age of 16–an arranged marriage he greatly resented. He was 19 and desperately in love with Isabelle at the time he unexpectedly inherited an earldom. But duty calls because of the crushing 80,000 pound debt he also inherited. When we meet them in BEGUILING THE BEAUTY they’ve been married for 8 years and they have this warm friendship. But here’s the thing, they haven’t consummated their marriage and made a pledge before their wedding, they would do so in 8 years time and ONLY to beget an heir. He in the meanwhile is NOT celibate. And get this, they chat about the women he sleeps with. It’s like their roommates and not husband and wife.

Millicent, on the other hand, is totally in love with her husband but never says a word to him about that. She doesn’t want to ruin the friendship they have. And she’d rather that than nothing. So she lives a life of unrequited love. Well in a month the time will arrive for them to consummate the marriage and get her good and pregnant. However, here’s the catch, the love of his life, who married a year after he did, is now widowed and has returned to London with her children. He’s found a house for her and is eager to see her the moment she’s back. As you can see this is a book that will be fraught with emotion. I for one canNOT wait to journey with Millicent and Fitz on their road to their HEA. Sherry as a wonderful excerpt (three great scenes) up on her website. The writing is–as in all her books–top notch superb! To me it’s a writer’s dream to read books written so well. Sometimes I just read her for that.

Also in BEGUILING THE BEAUTY we meet Hastings and Helena. OMG can I say how I utterly fell for Hastings. I mean just tumbled fathoms deep in love with this charming utterly witty and beguiling man. Some of the scenes between them were the best in the book. The tension, chemistry and animosity (on Helena’s part) between them had me riveted and dying to get my hands on this book well before its October 3rd release.

What’s the deal with Hastings and Helena? Well Hastings is the best friend of Helena’s twin brother, Fitz (of RAVISHING THE HEIRESS). He has had a thing for Helena since he was a teenager. She wants nothing to do with him. When he discovers she’s on the verge of ruination, he informs her brother. She thinks he’s a double crossing, double dealing rat who will sleep with anything in skirts. He’s never tried to court her because of his pride–fear of being rejected. But he does infuriate her like no other.

Here’s a small sample of a conversation between them from BEGUILING THE BEAUTY:

“All the same,” she said, giving him her falsest smile, “you duplicitous pig.”

“Admit it–you enjoyed the kiss.”

“I would rather eat a live snail than endure anything of the sort again.”

“Ooh,” he murmured, his eyes alight with speculation. “With or without its shell?”

She flicked a dismissive finger. “Save what you think of as your wit for a more gullible woman. What do you want from me, Hastings?”

“I’ve never wanted anything from you, Miss Fitzhugh–I’ve only wished to be of service.”

She snorted, this from the little snot who used to try to maneuver her into cupboards and steal kisses.

“Seeing as it was I who introduced Andrew Martin to you,” he continued, “I feel a deep sense of responsibility toward your welfare. At the risk of damaging my health, I have decided to offer to see to your needs.”

She’d been refraining from the moment he arrived, but she could no longer: Her eyes rolled of their own accord.  ”Your altruism astounds, Hastings. I am shocked you haven’t been canonized yet.”

“I quite share your opinion, my dear Miss Fitzhugh.” He leaned in and lowered his voice. “An unmarried woman passionate enough to flout all rules and into a man’s bed? Your needs just might cripple me.”

LOVE THIS SCENE!!! Hastings is so my kind of hero. As I said, canNOT WAIT for Hastings and Helena’s story in TEMPTING THE BRIDE!!
