mbmarriage

Good morning to Bev and all of you this last day of August. Yesterday Mistress by Marriage officially hit the shelves. It’s the next-to-last in the Courtesan Court series, and the last “Mistress.” (There’s a “Master” coming in April—Master of Sin—but I don’t want to get ahead of myself, LOL) Marriage starts at an unusual place for a romance: Baron Edward Christie and Caroline Parker are already married, but they sure haven’t found their HEA anywhere but in bed. Here’s the back cover blurb:

The inherent danger of one-click buying

callme

I just finished CALL ME IRRESISTIBLE -loved loved it and definitely one of my personal Top Picks for September -  by Susan Elizabeth Phillips so now I’m hooked. I’m currently plowing through her backlist. I’ve discovered this about myself, I love love the sports hero. I love antagonism between the hero and the heroine from the get go, which SEP delivers in her books in spades.

The party may be winding down, but it’s just the beginning of another year of books, giveaways and fun.

So what do I have cooked up for today? Firstly, today there will be 6 winners instead of 5 and they will each receive 6 books instead of 5 because in addition to 5 print books, they will also receive a digital book.

Second, Friday’s questions are going to put you to work. I have a couple of fast balls in store for you. And since I’m already late, let’s get moving.

Day Three – A ton a books

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

I don’t think I’ve ever appreciated or chortled over a word the way I do ton. No not in you weigh a ton but the London ton.

When my novella, All’s Fair in Love & Seduction came out, I called my older brother to let him know.  Excited for me, he immediately went to Amazon to check it out. Literally, a minute after we hung up, I got a rather concerned call from him. He wanted me to know that there was a spelling error in my blurb. I was naturally alarmed. Good Lord, how could I have misspelled something in something that short and something that had been gone over many times by myself as well as others. I checked the blurb on Amazon immediately and discovered, I had indeed written:

For Miss Elizabeth Smith, sharing her first kiss with the charming Lord Derek Creswell is nothing short of a dream come true…that is, until she is spotted by one of the most influential gossips of the ton.

As you can see, instead of writing town, I wrote ton, leaving out the sadly neglected ‘w’. My panicked heart slowed and I laughed and I laughed, then I laughed some more. My brother got a very brief history lesson in the matters of the London aristocracy.

The following day, my co-worker apprised me that I made exactly the same mistake. Apparently, the men I know do not read historical romances. :)

Now, in getting back to the other meaning of ton, I do have a ton of books. Seriously, a lot! So today, I’ve added 5 (five) more books to the mix, which means I’ll pick 6 winners instead of 5 today. Here’s what’s up for grabs today.  Is there a particular word(s) you think would trip up the average reader if they’re not familiar with that particular genre? Comment and enter to win 5 (five) books from Wednesday’s stash.

Now onto Wednesday’s Questions — yes they do get harder and plentiful as the week goes on  ;)

1. Just where do Margaret Mallory’s Highlanders return to in her “THE RETURN OF THE HIGHLANDERS” series?

2. In Christina Brooke’s excerpt of HEIRESS IN LOVE , what colour is the hero’s horse?

3. In Maggie Robinson’s MISTRESS BY MARRIAGE, what is Caroline Christie’s maiden name?

4. In Beverley Kendall’s ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE & SEDUCTION, at what age did Elizabeth first lay eyes on Derek?

Answer all 4 (four) correctly to be entered to win the ereader. Answer at least 2 (correctly) and you’ll be entered to win the eGift Certificates.

***Answers can be found in excerpts or downloads on author’s website or sample downloads on most etailer sites.

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWER on the blog. Email your answers to contests at theseasonforromance dot com and in the Subject line, please include Wednesday’s Answers.

Day Two – The Party Continues

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Tuesday’s books are fabulous. I was particularly taken with Loretta Chase’s SILK IS FOR SEDUCTION and Lorraine Heath’s WAKING UP WITH THE DUKE–I think I mentioned that a month back. Click here to take a look.

Included in today’s offerings are 5 (five) digital books, which means instead of 5 (five) books per winner, there will be 6 (six). I definitely encourage you to take a look at these books, not only are they all eBargains but they’re also fabulous!

Now on to today’s questions. Answer all correctly and you will be entered into the drawing for the eGift Certificates and the ereader. Correctly answer 2 (two) and you’ll be entered to win 1 (one) of the 2 (two) eGift Certificates.

Tuesday’s Questions

1. In Anna Campbell’s CAPTIVE OF SIN, what is the name of the hero Gideon Trevithick’s house in Cornwall?

2. In Jackie Barbosa’s GRACE UNDER FIRE, how did the heroine get her black eye?

3. In Beverley Kendall’s AN HEIR OF DECEPTION sampler, who does Alex’s son strongly resemble?

***Answers can be found in excerpts or downloads on author’s website or sample downloads on most etailer sites.

My thought for today is how much the majority of romance novels do not make good movies. In the same breath, I will say that some do–huge example would be Jane Austen’s  Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion (some of my favourites!). Can you think of a current romance novel that would make a good movie? Or which book do you think is just too perfect the way it is to be tampered with? Comment and enter to win 6 (six) books from Tuesday’s offering.

2nd Anniversary 5 Day Bash

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

The Season website is already two years old. Gosh, where has the time gone? I remember when it was a site strictly for historical romances and it didn’t have a blog because truly, what interesting things did I have to say? I remember when the site had no reviews and was constructed to mimic a print magazine. Oh, how utterly naive I was.  Now I’m working on I think my fourth  makeover of the site–which isn’t quite ready yet–and I’ve discovered this about myself, I do love my colours.

So what’s going on this week? I’m giving away a total of 125 print books to 25 commenters. That boils down to 25 books a day and 5 books per winner.  I have the books listed by day–Monday, Tuesday etc–and winners will send me their top 10 titles in preference order. I will do my best to accommodate  the winners requests.  To enter the daily book giveaway, you just need to comment on that day’s post. Yep, it’s that easy.

I do have other prizes. On August 29th, I’ll be announcing the winners for 2 (two) $15 eGift Certificates. The Grand Prize will be an eReader! Winner gets to choose either a Nook, a Kindle or Kobo Touch. To be entered into the drawing for these prizes does require a bit of work on your part. What that means is you’ll have to do a bit of reading if you already haven’t read the books in question.

The rules are as follows:

Answer both questions correctly and you’ll be entered into the drawings for the eGift Certificate AND the eReader.

Answer only one of the two questions correctly and you’ll be entered into the drawing only  for the eGift Cards.

Answer none of the questions correctly and…there’s always the next day. ;)
Monday’s Questions

In Maggie Robinson’s Mistress by Marriage, what gem was Caroline wearing when Edward first saw her?

In Beverley Kendall’s All’s Fair in Love & Seduction, what is the name of the heroine’s mother’s dearest and oldest friend, who incidentally happens upon Elizabeth in the garden after she parts ways with Derek?

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWER on the blog. Email your answers to contests at theseasonforromance dot com and in the Subject line, please include Monday’s Answers.

***Answers can be found in excerpts on author’s website or sample downloads on most etailer sites.

So now it’s time to check out Monday’s offerings.

The Season has been around for over two years now, how long have you been frequenting the site or are you a newbie? Comment and enter to win 5 books from Monday’s books. Remember, I’ll be selecting 5 winners!

*Print books will be sent to U.S. addresses only.

Pub. Date: July 26, 2011

Pages: Novel length

On the outskirts of London in a meadow of lavender, sits a house of esteemed ill repute. But this is no house geared toward pleasing men. No, this house is for women who have come to seek their own delight. And for three young ladies it’s where they’ll find something completely unexpected…true love.

Grace Brisbane will do whatever it takes to save her dying mother, but with a stepbrother intent on gambling and drinking, their funds have run dry. What’s a girl to do when she’s left poor and destitute? Seduce an Earl, of course. Handsome and rich, the Earl of Rodrick is the perfect target. Unfortunately, Rodrick despises innocent virgins. There’s only one place where Grace can learn the secrets of seduction… Lavender Hills. The moment Grace spots Alex, the man who will teach her the ways of intimacy, she knows she must guard her heart. Alex is charming and gorgeous and completely inappropriate.

As a young man, Alex Weston is blackmailed into working at Lavender Hills in order to save his family from London ’s prisons. There could be worse ways to spend his days and nights. Still, seduction has become a chore and thoughts of freedom keep him up at night. Until he receives a new client, the sweet Grace Brisbane. He should be thinking only of his growing need to escape, instead he’s captivated by the lovely Grace. The more time they spend together, the more he realizes that their brief meetings aren’t enough. For while marriage between a lady and a whore could never happen, Alex knows in his heart that he is willing to accept nothing less.
