Eleven Scandals to Start to Win A Duke's Heart
Sarah MacLean
Heat Level: 4 (Hot)

She lives for passion.

Bold, impulsive, and a magnet for trouble, Juliana Fiori is no simpering English miss. She refuses to play by society's rules: she speaks her mind, cares nothing for the approval of the ton, and can throw a punch with remarkable accuracy. Her scandalous nature makes her a favorite subject of London's most practiced gossips . . . and precisely the kind of woman The Duke of Leighton wants far far away from him.

He swears by reputation.

Scandal is the last thing Simon Pearson has room for in his well-ordered world. The Duke of Disdain is too focused on keeping his title untainted and his secrets unknown. But when he discovers Juliana hiding in his carriage late one evening—risking everything he holds dear—he swears to teach the reckless beauty a lesson in propriety. She has other plans, however; she wants two weeks to prove that even an unflappable duke is not above passion.

Another well written romantic tale that is everything a love story should be…

This third book in Sarah Maclean’s Love by Numbers series is bold, emotional, and takes the reader on a sensual adventure that will make your breath catch and little butterflies swarm your stomach. It is everything I wanted Juliana’s story to be and I am once again reminded why is a force to be reckoned with in the historical romance genre. I strongly suggest that you read the other two books in this series – Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake and Ten Ways to be Adored when Landing a Lord. Both books are permanent fixtures on my book shelf and you will be introduced to the two fantastic lead characters in this final book.

The reader first meets Juliana Fiori, the young half-sister of our hero’s, Nick and Gabriel from the first two books, in the first story in the series. Juliana has come from Italy with a dislike for the stringent rules of English society and a rebellious bent that gets her in trouble and in the gossip sheets time and time again. When she meets Simon, she thinks that she has finally found someone who can care about her as a person and not see her as a scandal waiting to happen. But Simon is not who he seems and is in fact the notorious Duke of Distain, Simon Pearson the Duke of Leighton. He is well known for his strict adherence to propriety and wants nothing to do with Juliana once he discovers who she really is. Throughout the series, Simon and Juliana butt heads until finally they get their chance at love.

In this book, Juliana pits herself against the duke in an attempt to prove to him that what they once felt for each other is more powerful than his need to be scandal free. Simon, for his part, can’t stop thinking about Juliana. But his family has a secret that will destroy them all and the last thing he needs is to be linked to a scandal hungry girl when the cards are laid on the table and only his reputation can save his family. He sets out to prove to Juliana that living a life in society doesn’t have to be boring but that she must play by the rules. However, they both find love closing in quick and neither is ready for the havoc it wreaks on their lives.

I fell in love with Juliana when she was introduced to me in the first book. I love her spirit and desire to be different. She may appear to be strong with a devil-may-care attitude but she is secretly insecure and terrified of ending up like her flighty mother who abandoned her and her brothers. Juliana’s depth as a character and her vulnerability make her one of my favorite heroines.

Simon ticked me off many times as I read this book. He is so rigid and firm on his stance of propriety, I want to smack the boy. He is the typical strong, arrogant aristocrat yet his sensuality just gives the reader the shivers! But he finally sees the light and I respect that he is smart enough to know when his goose is cooked and he goes with the flow. I wouldn’t say that he is my favorite hero but he is definitely appealing.

The plot is very strong in this book as are the many characters – a few of which the reader will have met in other books. I really enjoy Sarah’s witty writing style and the way she totally sucks the reader into her vision of regency England. She is an absolute delight to read.

The love scenes are emotionally charged and heated which fits right in with the way Sarah has written Juliana and Simon’s love story.

Overall, this book was a fantastic read and it will definitely find its place on my bookshelf with Sarah Maclean’s other wonderful books. I highly, highly recommend this book!

11 Scandals To Start--Loved it!
June M. from Kentucky
I absolutely loved this book. It had so much emotion in it with the way Julianna has been treated since coming to England. There were many times that I had to wipe my eyes because I could not see to read anymore. This was definately the most emotional of the series, in my opinion. I loved Julianna\'s character and am so sorry that this is the last book in the series. I look forward to seeing what Sarah MacLean writes next. I am sure that I will love it too.

Eleven Scandals was a delightful conclusion to Sarah Maclean's numbers series. It was wonderful to see the evolution of Simon and Juliana's characters through all 3 books.

Juliana was a warm and caring heroine with an engaging use of the English language. Conversely, Simon was known as the Duke of Distain. Although pompous and distainful, we got a few glimpses of another Simon when he didn't know who Juliana was. The reader also saw that he was truly regretful for not supporting his sister. When he finally realizes that he loves Juliana, Simon softens the way that he deals with people and accepts Juliana for who she is.

I just wish we got a bit more information on the man who ruined Georgiana and a hint if she would find her own HEA.

very enjoyable read

really enjoyed Juliana & Simon's story even if it meant staying up half the night cause I just couldn't bring myself to stop reading "just one more chapter" until there were no more chapters left. :) The back and forth between the characters as they try to fight and enjoy their attraction at the same time as well as their mutual growth and understanding of themselves, each other and what they need/want (and deserve) to be happy not to mention the little twist & surprises all kept the book in hand and me fully engrossed in the story.

Eleven Scandals...
wendy p from Massachusetts
The only thing I did not like about this book was that I ended up being up all night because I just could not put it down! Juliana is not your typical simpering English miss...though she is half-English, she is 100 percent Italian, full of passion, thinks nothing of bloodying one's nose or kneeing one in the nether-region - a tactic Simon (ever so arrogant, bred-born-raised as the future Duke rigidity in avoiding scandal at all costs proper) is sure that she leaned from the 'wolves that raised her'. Scandal may be her middle name when it actually should be her title. Her brother seeking to keep the ton from eating her and spitting her out enlists the aid of Simon to watch after her...perhaps a little thing called blackmail helped just a bit...Simon is drawn to Juliana on a physical level but being the ever so proper aristocrat he believes he can fight the bases needs of men and choose a future duchess based on bloodlines...much like a rancher chooses his breeding stock...and Juliana, daughter of fallen marchioness and a common merchant is anything but his ideal bride. When Julianna issues a challenge to Simon daring him to give her two weeks to show him that even a cold aristocrat needs a little heat in their lives and marriages it becomes a battle of wills - will Simon manage to keep his desires held at bay? Will Juliana create be able to refrain from creating scandal?
Sarah has outdone herself on this book, the characters reach out and grab you from the first pages and pull you into the regency world. This book is a keeper!

Favorite Read of the Spring!
B
I stayed up well into the wee hours to finish this book. I truly enjoyed the story; it contained a heroine that I really liked. Juliana didn't sit back and have life come to her, she embraced and enjoyed it. Simon has the weight of responsibility on his shoulders but is too extreme in handling them. There are several moments in the book that stand out.....when Simon talks with his 's sister and she gives his his betrothal gift. Another when Simon is wondering why the Ralston family doesn't really care if he is the Duke. These are moments when just being a brother or a man are what matter, not your rank in the Ton.

I recommend this book to everyone, although reading the first two in order probably would be best.
