THE DALTON BOYS ARE COMING, ONE BY ONE…
There was a time when Crow Hill, Texas’s notorious Dalton Gang ran wild. Now, as owners of the Dalton Ranch, their partnership in the rundown operation leaves little time for raising hell—except for the right women who can turn on the heat…
It’s been sixteen years since Dax Campbell set foot in Crow Hill—and sixteen years since Arwen Poole had a crush on him in high school. Unfortunately, setting her sights on this irresistible man again has stirred up a lot of unfulfilled desires in Arwen. A few nights in bed with Dax should get him out of her system once and for all. That’s all she wants. And for now, that’s all she needs.
But Dax is looking for something deeper in a woman. So they agree to an unconventional affair: for every no-strings sexual encounter Arwen craves, Dax gets to take her out for a night of romance. While both manage to hold up their end of the bargain, they’re growing closer than either of them can afford. Because Dax has a family secret that could drive him out of Crow Hill for good, and Arwen’s not letting him go without a fight…
Series: A Dalton Gang Novel
Undeniable is undeniably hot and sexy
Once upon a time there were three wild teenagers that raised hell throughout Crow Hill. Now grown men they have come home to claim the inheritance left to them by the couple who loved them like sons.
Dax Campbell left Crow Hill and planned to never return. He turned his back on his family, but he can’t turn his back on his two best friends. So he is back, but plans to stay as far away from The Campbell and his Mother as he can, try to mend fences with his younger sister, and maybe find a willing woman to sleep with while he’s there. Once everything is settled he plans to hit the road again and find somewhere else to hang his hat.
Dax is a complicated character. He’s been neglected by his parents his entire life and in turn has neglected the people who care about him. He isn’t very likeable and on several occasions refers to himself as an ass – which he is. There were times that I didn’t understand why anyone would want to be around him, especially Arwen.
Arwen Poole had a huge crush on Dax in high school. When she hears that he is back in town she knows that this is her chance to finally get him out of her system. She sets out to seduce him and her plan works one hundred percent. Arwen is complicated too, but in a different way than Dax. She had a tough childhood and thinks that she has moved on and come to terms with the effects it had on her. As her relationship with Dax grows and changes she realizes that she hasn’t dealt with it as much as she has thought and has to come to terms with some things that she doesn’t really want to face.
Dax and Arwen work together sexually. The scenes between the two of them are incredibly hot. But, the scenes where they are communicating felt forced and uncomfortable to me. The characters don’t connect in that way and I couldn’t see how they could sustain a relationship. Arwen and Dax are both so damaged by the past and have so many issues to deal with separately, that every time they are together it ends in a fight which leads to angry sex or one of them walking away.
My favorite part of the book was actually the secondary romance between Dax’s sister, Darcy and Josh. It’s a sweet romance. He’s loved her from afar and she’s realized what has been in front of her all along. This exchange between them stuck out to me:
“I wish I’d know…all of it. Everything. Our lives could’ve been so much different.”
I wish that the couples had been switched and the focus of the book had been on Darcy and Josh with Dax and Arwen being the secondary romance. I felt that Darcy and Josh had the more real relationship of the two.
The story flows perfectly, the writing is excellent, and the sex scenes scorching.Reviewed by Carrie
